Autumn in WNY

I think the best time to see WNY is in the fall.  The colors of the hills and mountains is unbelievable!  Yesterday the family spent the day in Allegheny State Park (and stopped at the Ellicotville craft show on the way home!) and spent today at the Letchworth State Park (another big craft show then had to take pics of the falls).  This year, maybe because of the summer drought, the colors are especially vivid!  Here are a few of my favorites.

Please see my website: jillscreativeendeavors.weebly.com for more photos.  I am starting to run out of room here so I’m going to post more photos on the website!  Please don’t be shy! 🙂

Letchworth

To end a beautiful fall weekend, I spent the day in Letchworth State Park (called the Grand Canyon of the East) with my mom and my girls.  We first walked around their annual craft show and I bought myself and the girls some new earrings.  I have a favorite stand that I buy hand-made earrings and other jewelry from every year!  We had a few “fair food” snacks then continued to the park to the lower falls.  Nina and I walked down the 127 steps to the lower falls while Mom and the other 2 girls hung out at the playground.  Many pictures later we headed back towards home, stopping in Warsaw for lunch at a great little restaurant, Laurie’s.  My uncle and his girlfriend took me to this restaurant last year and I LOVED it so we make it our late-lunch stop on the way home from the craft show now!  And, of course, we had to stop for pumpkins at our favorite pumpkin place, just outside of Warsaw.

Here are a few of my favorite pics from Monday.  Please check out my 2011 photo gallery for more autumn shots of Letchworth!

9th Anniversary at Niagara

Wednesday, Sept 21st was my 9th anniversary!  My husband and I spent the day pretty much walking around.  First we headed to Old Fort Niagara; we drove through the state park and walked along the shore of Lake Ontario (where I found YELLOW beach glass!!).  Then we headed to the fort.  We spent a couple of hours touring the fort; it was pretty neat and plan on returning with the kids!  If you’re even in the Niagara Falls area take the drive along the Rober Moses Pkwy and take a tour yourself- it’s worth it!

After we were done in the fort we lunched in the little village of Youngstown then headed back along the gorge- the Devil’s Hole gorge trail was calling to us!  We took a walk down LOTS of stairs then walk along the gorge for about 1.5 miles (if not more).  The power of the river is amazing that close up.  The water was a beautiful turquoise color and the leaves were just starting to change.  At the other end of the trail we walk up LOTS of stairs then  visited Whirlpool State Park- it’s a big bend in the river where there are lots of rapids and a wicked whirlpool.

We then continued on the Niagara Falls (where we’ve been many times) and just wandered around the souvenir shops for a little while.  A dinner at Duff”s ended our day; we then headed home to pick up the kids!

Here’s a few of my favorites from our day and you can see more in the 2011 photography gallery.  Thanks for looking!
