Has anyone tried this? I signed up for it a few years ago (with an account through geocaching.com) but this was before I had a smart phone and I wasn’t going to buy a handheld GPS unit. Fast-forward to iPhones and Apps….
Softball is over and we were looking for something to do- I hear a lot more about geocaching on the Girl Scout sites lately. Thanks to apps and the location devices on our smart phones, you can download and app and find caches. What are they? They are containers ranging in size from nanos and micros (think the size of your thumb!) to large ammo boxes. They will have a log book to sign, and maybe some little items to trade! Use the app to find caches close to you, and go for a walk…or a hike! They are EVERYWHERE! According to geocaching.com, there are over 2,400,000 caches hidden worldwide!
We started looking for caches at the end of July and have over 25 finds so far. We just hid our 2nd cache today! We just got our first travel bug and can’t wait to activate it (these are items that travel from cache to cache and their adventures get logged).

Last week we spent the day in Canada at Niagara on the Lake and the Clifton Hill area at Niagara Falls. Of course, we had to find a few caches while we were there, and we’re now “international” cachers! 🙂
You can find out more at geocaching.com and maybe start your own adventures!
