My Summer

As you can tell from yesterday’s post, our summer was pretty much consumed with softball (not that I’m complaining!).  We did manage to squeeze a few other things in, though!  In May, Juli had Kindergarten orientation- can’t believe my baby is going to school already (she starts tomorrow!).

An exciting day!

At then end of the Month, I got to go with Nina on her 6th grade trip to Toronto.  We went to the zoo, the Royal Museum, took a tour of the city, and finished with dinner at Medieval Times!  It was a long day, but lots of fun.  (And, for the first time since I started coaching, I had to miss a game.  It was Nina’s 1st game of the season and her, 3 teammates and myself missed the game because of the trip!)

Just a few short weeks later, Nina graduated from 6th grade.  Can’t believe she is starting middle school!!

Just a little behind

Wow, can’t believe I got 2 months behind!  Sorry to those who follow my posts!

Well, as you can probably guess, it’s been pretty busy.  Softball had just started when I posted last- and there were a couple weeks we had softball 3 or 4 times during the week.  Plus Girl Scouts, school concerts and activities, getting ready for the end of the school year, gardening and home repairs have kept us busy!

So, here’s a little peek at some of the stuff that’s been going on:

For a swap in ATC Fun we were to alter a CD.  I’ve hadn’t done any altering but thought I’d take a stab at it.  I scanned some memorbilia from my NYC trip and went to work.  I liked it so much I made one for myself!

I’ve seen lots of cracked marbles on Pintrest and just had to do it myself!  I cracked a lot of marbles for another project that I will post soon (I promise) and I’m planning on using the bigger marbles to make my girls necklaces.

If you haven’t seen this technique before, it’s quite simple.  Bake marbles in a pie tin at 500° for 20 minutes then immediately dump them into a metal bowl of ice water. The effect is so cool!

I re-did a garden this year- covered it completely with mulch and I’m using it for different planters.  One idea I had was a collection of little pitchers and other containers on a table.  My dad is going to make me a table with a slab from a tree trunk (til then I have a temporary table).  I’ve been to the thrift shop a few times and found some great stuff!  This one was clear- I coated the inside with polyurethane then added lots of colored glitter and shook it around.  I was so happy with how it came out!

Also in this garden is a little gnome garden.  I used a 12″ shallow planter, added some moss, a pansy, a gnome and a gnome home.  I made the home out of a little bird house I found at Joanns.  My dad cut the hole into a door and I painted them as mushrooms.  I put one together for my mom for Mother’s Day, too!

My girls made this bouquets of tissue paper flowers for the Grammas and Great-Grammas for Mother’s Day.  My girls are lucky girls- they have 4 Grammas!!

I’ve seen these “gumball machines” at Michael’s and finally decided I needed to make some too!  I made these for a teacher gifts.  The music one I made for the orchestra teacher (painted black with gold stamping) and the floral one is part of my 2nd grader’s teacher gift.

Ok, so there’s a bit of why it’s been so busy!  I will keep my posts up to date…well, I’ll try anyway! 🙂
